Where to watch The Light Parade

Not sure where to head before, during or after the Festive Light Parade? Here are our recommendations to help you get the most out of the event.

Christmas Fair in the Square - 11am - 7pm

Head to Culver Square, before during or after the Big Switch On for a great selection of gift options.

Great for stepping away from the crowds, early Christmas shopping

The George Hotel - Get there early!

Enjoy the cosy vibes of the George Hotel with a hot drink and a comfortable pew. If you're there early enough, you might be able to nab a coveted spot out the front and settle in for the duration. Expect mulled wine, gingerbread men, and mince pies.

Great for a relaxed visit, seated experience, festive food and drink, festive photos

Firstsite - from 4pm

The Folk and Bespoke Market kicks off the fun in the afternoon and will remain open until after the parade. You might even be able to catch their second showing of Muppets Christmas Carol if you leave the parade by 6:30pm.

Great for artisan crafts, local gifts, movie nostalgia, earlier visit

Fenwick - 5pm

Our parklet seating outside Fenwick is a great spot for those who might need to sit down during the parade. Be sure to check out Fenwick's beautiful Christmas windows, and if you're feeling indulgent - take a peak at their beauty advent calendar.

Great for a seated experience, Christmas windows

Town Hall - from 5:30pm

This iconic building is a fan-favourite and sure to be a popular spot.

Great for parade views, photo opportunities

The Courtyard at Lion Walk- from 5:30pm

The fun continues with a festive grotto, more Colchester Market stalls, a jam-packed line up and further illuminations. Santa, The Grinch, Bluey, Olaf, Elsa and Anna are all ready to say hello. You can expect cast appearances from Elf, Snow White and the Mercury, and festive performances from local talent including Yazmin Wood, Jupiter Ray and this year’s winner of Colchester Has Talent.
