Calling all local artists to get involved with an exciting new community project ‘Street Stories Colchester’ which will be launched in May 2022.
Our Colchester are working on a spectacular new vacant units community project called ’Street Stories’. The concept has been designed to improve the appearance of empty shops by large scale artwork installations across the town centre. To further enhance these pieces of art, there will be an interactive Augmented Reality (AR) twist and each piece of art will be brought to life as an immersive multi-sensory experience which will be triggered by a free downloadable smartphone app.
DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS 25TH FEBRUARY 2022
Our Colchester Business Improvement District (BID) is the parent brand of InColchester and is an organisation that represents more than 450businesses across Colchester town centre and aims to make a difference to our streets. By building relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders across the town, we see Colchester moving in a positive direction through Invigorating, Imagining and Connecting. Our projects over our five-year term are targeted towards making Colchester a better place to work, live and visit. We add value through business support, making Colchester cleaner and greener, town centre marketing and events.
Street Stories is a creative and innovative project which will help to highlight commercial space, create an attractive environment and give residents and visitors an insight into Colchester’s rich heritage. The trail will launch at a critical time in the town’s ongoing economic recovery, and by moving visitors around the attraction it will further encourage footfall across the town centre.
How to get involved
If you have artwork about local history or interesting local stories we want to hear from you! Please email a good quality image of your work to email@example.com
As a gesture of goodwill there is a £200 fee available for all successful artists, and your work will be featured prominently in the town centre, along with an artist’s profile, website details and social media handles. As part of the campaign Our Colchester will also be carrying out a significant PR campaign across a variety of local media channels.
It's a great opportunity to have your art out in the world and be promoted in a media campaign!
We'd love to hear from a mix of artists in all styles and mediums exploring a variety of themes, so if you feel that you have a piece of artwork that could work with the brief, or alternatively want to create something new for the project please get in touch!
In order to create an exciting and interesting art trail, we would like to showcase a wide range of these. Some suggested topics to explore include:
- Local History
- The environment
- Famous faces/stories
- Human rights
- Political movements
- Culture & society
- Science and technology
- Arts, museums & heritage
- Film, theatre & television
Of course your artwork doesn't need to fit any of the above as long as it's relevant to Colchester we'd love to see it!
Please email good quality photos of the artwork you would like to have included to firstname.lastname@example.org.
We'd love to see Colchester from your eyes!
If you have stories you'd like to share with us outside of this campaign make sure to tag us on social media! (@incolchester)
