The Mer­cury is an artis­tic pow­er­house in the East – a vital, vibrant, wel­com­ing cen­tre of cul­ture for the peo­ple of Colch­ester, Essex and beyond.

The the­atre takes its name from the Roman mes­sen­ger god, Mercury.

It was Mercury’s task to con­nect the peo­ple with the gods, and so, in keep­ing with our name, con­nec­tion is at the heart of every­thing we do.

Pub/​Bar based in Colch­ester town cen­tre. Pop in dur­ing the day or be wel­comed by a warm­ing buzz lat­er in the evening. Cock­tails, Mock­tails, Spir­its, Beers and so much more.

Char­ac­ter­is­tic Pub­lic House and the old­est Pub in Colch­ester. We have live music, sky sports, beer gar­den, events and car park. Wifi access for all and our venue is open for pri­vate hire.

Twisters Bar has been the home of great music in Colch­ester since 1998, fus­ing cool indie, rock, elec­tro, punk and oth­er alter­na­tive gen­res with expert­ly made clas­sic cock­tails, a cool range of canned craft beers and draught plus a great atmos­phere all under one roof (and garden!).

Sit­u­at­ed on the main high street of Colch­ester the venue build­ing dates back to 1905 when it was the Grand Palace of Vari­eties some­thing of which is tried to kept alive today with a Grand Vari­ety of dif­fer­ent rooms of enter­tain­ment. Today the beau­ti­ful and orig­i­nal ornate ceil­ing and bal­conies are still on full view for all to admire and com­plete­ly enhanced by our state of the art light­ing and laser sys­tems a tru­ly amaz­ing site to see.

We are one of Colch­ester’s old­est pubs sit­u­at­ed in the mid­dle of Colch­ester town cen­tre. Serv­ing award win­ning ales, lagers and wines. We offer a wide range of food, cof­fee and drinks in the day and then turn into the top rock & indie venue at night. Friend­ly atmos­phere from both staff and customers.

Restored to its for­mer glo­ry, The George Hotel has proud­ly sat on Colch­ester High Street in Essex for over 500 years. It has always been at the cen­tre of bustling life in England’s old­est record­ed town and with his­tor­i­cal arte­facts, medieval cel­lars dat­ed back to AD60, peri­od fea­tures and beau­ti­ful beams; it real­ly is one of a kind and a place to remem­ber! Guests are wel­comed to a lav­ish stay in our beloved hotel full of charm and history.

Fea­tur­ing a styl­ish bar, lounge and restau­rant, The George offers free Wifi through­out and park­ing is avail­able to the rear of the build­ing. The 49 her­itage guest en-suite rooms are dec­o­rat­ed in warm tones, have super com­fort­able beds and smart TVs, while the indi­vid­ual suites boast emper­or beds, some bath­rooms with free­stand­ing bath, Bang & Olufsen sound sys­tems and cof­fee machines. All rooms are full of design­er touch­es and the peri­od fea­tures you would expect from a hotel of this age.

Romano Lounge is an infor­mal, neigh­bour­hood food led café/​bar locat­ed in Colch­ester — open all day every day!

In 2016 we start­ed off on our ​“Great Jour­ney” with our now clas­sic core beer: Great Jour­ney Begins. This was our Pale Ale and it was received very well local­ly. It has remained one of our most steady and reg­u­lar­ly pro­duced beers. It’s an easy drinker and a great ses­sion Pale Ale.

From the con­fi­dence we gained devel­op­ing our first beer we start­ed to exper­i­ment with new styles, vari­eties and tech­niques and before we knew it we had a nice selec­tion to offer our patrons. 

This is when we realised we need­ed a lit­tle bit more space to spread out and con­tin­ue to grow our pas­sion for great tast­ing beer.

We were luck­i­ly able to set up shop in the old Jacks hard­ware store in the heart of Colch­ester city and now we’re flying.
