In 2019 we cel­e­brat­ed 30 years of beau­ti­ful hair­dress­ing in North Essex. We are very proud of this great achieve­ment; espe­cial­ly when you take into con­sid­er­a­tion research sug­gests only 9% of small busi­ness­es sur­vive over 10 years.

We are so proud to have been cre­at­ing beau­ti­ful hair for 30 years. We are even more proud of our con­tri­bu­tion in the local com­mu­ni­ty. Over the past 30 years we have trained and employed hun­dreds of hair­dressers and sup­port staff. Many of them are still with us today, over 30% of our team have been with us over 10 years. Many of our pre­vi­ous employ­ees have gone on to be Moth­ers too beau­ti­ful chil­dren and we hope the skills and val­ues they prac­ticed with us have helped in rais­ing good kids. Some have gone on to open their own salons and become employ­ers them­selves and some have changed careers. We hope time with us helped to shape them into the peo­ple they have become today and wish them hap­pi­ness and success.

Your the­atre, your stories

The Mer­cury is an artis­tic pow­er­house in the East – a vital, vibrant, wel­com­ing cen­tre of cul­ture for the peo­ple of Colch­ester, Essex and beyond.

The the­atre takes its name from the Roman mes­sen­ger god, Mercury.

It was Mercury’s task to con­nect the peo­ple with the gods, and so, in keep­ing with our name, con­nec­tion is at the heart of every­thing we do.

This well-equipped ​“lit­tle gem of a the­atre” in Colch­ester Town Cen­tre has been wel­com­ing vis­it­ing ama­teur and pro­fes­sion­al groups onto our stage since 2002, and a vari­ety of users into our stu­dio rehearsal space. We have packed sea­son­al pro­grammes offer­ing gen­uine choice. From clas­sic and mod­ern dra­ma to musi­cal the­atre, stand-up com­e­dy nights to school hires, clas­si­cal music to magi­cians — we do our best to make the expe­ri­ence of all of our hir­ers and patrons enjoy­able. We also host a youth dra­ma skills group who per­form twice a year in the the­atre, and an over 55’s group, Act V.

The Headgate is a Grade 2 list­ed build­ing (for­mer­ly a Con­gre­ga­tion­al chapel), with a max­i­mum audi­to­ri­um capac­i­ty of 87 peo­ple, and a stu­dio capac­i­ty of 40. We are devel­op­ing an addi­tion­al rehearsal and meet­ing space in the adjoin­ing build­ing, which used to be the church hall and Sun­day School. Enjoy open air the­atre at Colch­ester Cas­tle Park. Pro­duc­tions air­ing through­out the sum­mer season. 

We are sit­u­at­ed in the Low­er Bowls Green in Low­er Cas­tle Park. The clos­est entrance/​gate is the Leisure World side of the Park.

We are a team of strate­gic prob­lem solvers who utilise the pow­er of dig­i­tal to grow businesses. 

We spe­cialise in web­site design, graph­ic design, motion design and videography.

We are a Local Author­i­ty main­tained one form entry pri­ma­ry school. Our ​‘num­ber to admit’ in each year group is 30 for each of our sev­en class­es totalling 210 chil­dren. All our admis­sions are man­aged by Essex Coun­ty Coun­cil Plan­ning & Admissions.
