Into Christmas

Whats' on where and when: 7th, 14th & 21st December

There’s an exciting community project taking place, which is giving school pupils from across Colchester and surrounding areas the chance to decorate stars and have them displayed around the town centre during the festive season.

Over 650 hand-painted stars will adorn the town and you can head to Colchester and seek out your school’s star throughout December.

You should also visit the town centre every Saturday (7th, 14th and 21st December) leading up to Christmas Day for festive entertainment happening across the town centre.

Raise your eyes to Jumbo at 4pm in the town centre every day in December and see the stars cascade and shine bright this festive season.

Come to Colchester for a merry meet-up with your friends and families or get all your Christmas goodies from the heart of Colchester.

CULVER SQUARE

Saturday 7th December 2019

  • Every child will be welcomed by our two fun time elves, Holly & Ivy and get signed up to the Elf Training Programme.
  • The group of trainee elves will be taken through a very important Elf & Safety briefing before learning and practising the Elf Code and being given their own Elf Name.
  • Upon completion of the briefing, the elves will be presented with their very own complimentary Elf hat, red cheek makeup and glitter!
  • The trainee elves are required to pass the reindeer test by memorising all 9 reindeer names. The elves will then be able to make a bag of their own reindeer food ready for Christmas Eve.
  • Finally, the elves will be given an Elf Training Record from Santa and tasks will be ticked off. More tasks will need to be completed in the following weeks too.

Saturday 14th December 2019

  • This week Holly & Ivy will welcome the trainee elves back stamp and stamp their elf training records. Each mini elf will get their cheeks painted again and those that did not attend the previous week will be given their hat.
  • This week the elves will learn how to wrap presents in record time and pass the Chief Elf Inspection Test. They will get to practice in the elf wrapping zone, if they want, they can even bring in their own present and wrap that!
  • Holly & Ivy will then spark the mini elves’ imagination with a story and teach the Trainee Elves how to write the perfect letter to Santa. The children will each receive a decorated piece of paper and a Santa addressed envelope. The mini elves can start their letter to Santa to take home to finish.
  • They are invited to return the following week to give the finished letter to Holly & Ivy who will ensure they go directly into Santa’s letterbox.

Saturday 21st December 2019

  • For the final week of the elf workshops, the mini elves must learn how to sing a Christmas song perfectly in tune to create that special Christmas Magic, they will get their own song sheet too, to take home!
  • They will then be shown how to decorate a Christmas biscuit as a practice run so that they know how to do it on Christmas Eve, ready to leave out for Santa.
  • Once they have learned the song and practised the biscuit decorating, their Elf Training Records are stamped ready for Christmas Eve, and the mini elves each get a certificate at the end, signed by Holly, Ivy and Santa!
