About Us
We are Elsa and Charlotte, the owners of Brews & Whiskers!
We’re a couple in our 20s who graduated from the University of Essex in 2023. After uni, we worked and eventually decided that we wanted to build something of our own. We both love animals, have had pets of our own growing up and have volunteered at cat shelters, so we knew when we built a business together we wanted to help animals in need. We’ve both worked a lot in customer service, so mixing the two together in a cat cafe seemed like the perfect choice!
In late 2023 we started planning our own cat cafe, looking into business models, start up loans and learning as much as we could about running a cafe. We were approved for a British Start Up Loan in early 2024 and even received a grant from the University of Essex Start Ups team, so we got to work on finding a premises and organising everything we needed for Brews & Whiskers.
Then we needed to find kitties in need! We spoke to two wonderful rescues, one in Athens called Nine Lives Greece and one in Cyprus called Cyprus Pride House who already have a lot of experience providing adoptions to the UK. They were excited to send us rescue cats to foster so we can help them to get even more cats adopted.
We wanted to create an environment where cat lovers could come together and spend time with furry friends. Whether you are looking to adopt or can't adopt because of personal circumstances, we want everyone to feel welcome to enjoy some time with our kitties.
